Great car to zip around the island in! We loved it.

First and last time renting from Turo. On the first day in Maui, I went to Costco and with a cart full of perishables the key fob wouldn’t work. It took around 20 minutes of attempts to get the car to open. In the Maui heat with fish in the cart . Halfway to our hotel, which was an hour away from Costco the owners contacted me, but unfortunately, their business is near the airport. With perishable groceries in the car and my daughter at the condo, I could not turn around. The next day they were unavailable to meet. The third day we met up and exchanged keys. During this time we either left the car door open or in areas that were unsafe risked locking it. We Got locked out one other time. At the end of the second day, we learned about the emergency key that’s hidden in the key fob, which is actually quite challenging to use as you have to pull on the door handle to access the key port. So on an island known for its car break-ins you look like a car thief. On the third day we arranged to meet at a halfway point 30 minutes one way from our condo. After getting the keys, no less than four hours later, we got an emergency signal at the tires had a problem.. I reached out to the owners who asked me to go to the nearest station where I can get my tires checked, I did that -the tires were fine, and the owner explained that it was likely a sensor issue and it was a common problem with the style of car. For the remainder of the trip. We were alerted that there was a problem with the tires.. there are lots of one lane highways on Maui but if you go off the road, you go down a HIGH cliff. So being confident that your car is safe to drive is important. That’s a second trip to find a station that can check tires- locating that as a tourist is not a simple google search. I was also surprised by the fee to exit the airport on Pick Up (25) and the request to wash the car at a car wash before you dropped it off.(150 fine). There was a comment in the instructions on being really careful with sunscreen in the car as it’s impossible to clean off. in Maui you have to wear mineral based sunscreen. They’re very challenging to get off the car, and it’s all the law allows you to wear. I just felt like the cost was slightly more on Turo than what I would’ve ended up paying at any car rental place, and I have very limited time for vacation, and the time and stress was simply not worth it. I also feel like if there’s a mechanical issue with the car that requires the person renting to take an hour plus out of their vacation and plan to meet up with somebody at their hours the final bill should be discounted, and the owner should be working around the renters schedule. but I’m still paying full price for what was a very stressful rental experience with Keys that didn’t work and a sensor light continually alerting me that there was a mechanical problem with the tires. Owners were very nice each time I contacted them.

Everything was great with this rental. Pickup, communication, and return. Highly recommend using.

It was clean and affordable. Little disappointed we had to pay so much from airport parking. Otherwise things were okay.
