I wasn’t initially planning on leaving a review, but after repeatedly receiving requests to do so, I feel it’s important to share my experience, especially for families traveling with young children.
This was my first experience using Turo, and unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. During the booking process, I specifically requested car seats for both our toddler and infant through the Turo app. After a 12-hour travel day and adjusting to a seven-hour time difference, we arrived at the vehicle only to discover that neither car seat was provided. You can imagine the stress and frustration of arriving exhausted with two young children and having to figure out how to safely transport them without the car seats we had requested.
At the end of our trip, I returned the vehicle within the designated return window and took photos documenting its condition and parking location. However, due to the chaos of checking bags, getting to our gate, and having limited cell service, I didn’t upload the photos to the Turo app until approximately an hour later. Since uploading the photos is part of the checkout process, I recommend doing so immediately after parking the vehicle. Despite returning the car on time, I was still charged a late fee.
To Turo’s credit, I was eventually able to receive refunds for both the missing car seats and the late fee. However, this required contacting Turo’s corporate support team to get the issues resolved.
I went into this experience feeling optimistic, especially after hearing positive things about Turo on social media. Unfortunately, you don’t truly know what an experience will be like until you go through the process yourself.
I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciate that the charges were eventually refunded. However, forgetting both car seats is unacceptable, particularly when traveling with an infant and a toddler. Providing the requested equipment and ensuring a smooth, stress-free rental experience are basic expectations, not extras.
Overall, my first experience with Turo in Hawaii was disappointing. I hope this feedback encourages better communication, more attention to detail, and a smoother experience for future customers, especially families traveling with young children.
