I want to be honest and fair, so I waited a few days after my trip to cool off before writing this.
I used Turo to rent a car in Fort Lauderdale after flying from Chicago. I uploaded my Illinois driver’s license ahead of time, and the host confirmed everything and said she would see me the next day.
When I landed, I kept her updated. Due to airport delays and the Uber pickup situation, it took about 90 minutes to get a ride. I was actively messaging her the entire time letting her know I was on the way.
Out of nowhere, my reservation was canceled and I only received a partial refund. When I asked why, she blamed Turo and said it was automatic after two hours. That was not true. Turo confirmed that she reported me as a no show twice, even though I was in contact with her the entire time. She then denied doing it.
I had no choice but to rebook the same car because I had no other way to get around. That meant I had to pay twice. Yes, I got a partial refund later and a small discount, but that does not change what happened. The situation was extremely stressful. I was overwhelmed, crying, and physically sick over it.
She also tried to remove unlimited mileage from the second booking, even though it was included the first time. I had to ask her to add it back.
I am a single mom on a tight budget. I planned this trip for over a year, and having to pay twice for this car cut directly into my spending money.
The car itself was fine clean and no issues. But the way this was handled was not okay. If you are even slightly delayed, expect to be marked as a no show regardless of communication.
I would not rent from this host again. This felt dishonest, and I was put in a situation where I had no choice but to deal with it.
