Was pretty disappointed. I had actually selected to rent this car because my wife and I were thinking about purchasing the same model, when we picked it up the owner said he had been cleaning it so it was ready for us, but when we received it it was dirty from outside to in with nasty cupholders and crumbs from food everywhere, on top of that the car reeked extremely bad of gasoline, to the extent my wife and I were worried something was wrong and had to reach out to the owner. He casually told us “oh yeah the past renters spilled some gas and we tried to clean it up”. First off, I’ll be honest, we reserved the car 18 hours before the pickup, but at that point if the car isn’t in shape for anyone to rent or has issues, don’t have it available on the app. When we arrived to pickup the car, the owner was rude and without any word started opening all the car doors searching for something fervently while my wife was sitting there and we kept asking what he was looking for and wouldn’t tell us, it was very bizarre. The communication was poor and again, we had to reach out to find out about the smell, after being in the car for a pretty concentrated period of time due to our travel distance to Evanston, and my wife getting sick to her stomach from the smell - we had to keep the windows open with 39 degree weather, so my wife was not only with a migraine from the smell but also freezing. Towards the end of our rental time, our flight got messed up by the airlines and moved around, so we requested nicely to the owner if he would let us return the car to the airport to avoid all of the traffic issues going from the other end of the city to the Airport with less time now. They said no - you would think after giving us the car in such a poor state that they would want to go out of their way to rectify it. This was really disappointing, and honestly it’s the 2nd car in a row that Turo has allowed to be in this sort of state and also made it extremely difficult to resolve anything or be heard whatsoever. Renter/owner: please do better, the car rental isn’t cheap and the least you can do is give it you your guest/customer in a clean, comfortable state. This just seems like you’re advantageous/greedy and trying to make any single buck you can get; if it’s not ready to rent, don’t have it available on the platform. I hate to leave reviews like this, but with how rude and unhelpful the owner was it made it much easier for us to give the honest feedback. Remember, it’s not what happens or you do to your guests/customers, they’ll remember how you made them feel, and we felt disrespected and taken advantage of.
