Thanks, Skylar! So glad the Escalade worked out for your family trip. You’re welcome back anytime!
I would not recommend renting this vehicle unless you are prepared to potentially deal with unexpected mechanical issues and a difficult resolution process.
Initially, the SUV seemed like a good community vehicle. It wasn’t perfect, but it met our needs until we noticed a slow leak in one of the front tires. We immediately contacted the host, Clint, to ask how he preferred we handle the situation. He instructed us to have the tire inspected and repaired if necessary.
During that inspection, we were informed by the tire shop that the front tires had excessive wear caused by a significant alignment issue and that they were worn down to the cords. We were told this created a serious safety concern and that continuing to drive on those tires could have resulted in a tire failure. Based on that information, we notified the host to keep communication open and to discuss how to proceed.
To ensure the vehicle was safe to operate for the return trip, we paid approximately $430 for replacement tires. After driving back to Charlotte from the coast, the same tire began losing air again. Once we reached our destination and parked the vehicle, we contacted Turo Customer Support. At that point, the host had indicated he preferred future communication be handled more formally. Turo assisted with arranging a tow, canceling the remainder of the trip, and processing the applicable refund.
Unfortunately, throughout the process, I felt the communication from the host became increasingly hostile. During our interactions, I was called names such as “clown,” “liar,” and “scammer.” My only goal throughout this situation was to address what I believed was a legitimate safety concern and resolve the issue fairly. Based on my experience, I hope the vehicle receives at least a professional alignment inspection before being rented again.
To be fair, there were also two issues on our end. When picking up the vehicle, I initially had trouble locating it in an unfamiliar airport parking garage. I apologized to the host for the inconvenience and appreciated the assistance I received. Later in the trip, the key fob accidentally fell into a pool. Before taking any action, we contacted the hosts to ask how they wanted us to proceed so we would not overstep. They approved us replacing the key fob, and we paid more than $400 out of pocket for our mistake without requesting reimbursement.
I believe it’s important for prospective renters to have an accurate account of my experience so they can make an informed decision. While every rental experience is different, mine involved what I understood to be significant safety concerns, substantial unexpected expenses, and communication that ultimately became unprofessional.

Sorry the trip did not end as either of us hoped. This vehicle is meticulously maintained, we have hundreds of five-star trips and no safety or maintenance concerns. It was last serviced May 26 with no tire issues reported. When you flagged the tire, I asked you to have it inspected at my expense. We are deeply committed to a safe, reliable experience for every guest, every time. Safe travels.
