My experience with Tom started off well. He seemed friendly and accommodating but it ended very differently.
First, be aware that you may be asked to pick up or drop off the vehicle without Tom being present. The car was left at the agreed upon location for me to retrieve. While that arrangement may be convenient, it’s something renters should carefully consider since the vehicle is unattended before pickup. Any damage may fall on you.
My scheduled checkout time was 1:00 p.m. The day before my trip ended, I messaged Tom asking if returning it at 1:30 p.m. would be okay. He said no problem! He had already instructed me to leave the vehicle at the airport, leave the key inside, and send him the location. I completed the return through the app at 1:32 p.m., and Turo immediately charged me a $174 late return fee.
I contacted Turo right away to dispute the charge, but they told me only the host could request that the late fee be waived. When I asked Tom for help, he told me there was nothing he could do and claimed he wouldn’t receive any of the late fee. Later, Turo informed me that hosts do receive most of those fees. When I confronted Tom about the discrepancy in his claim, he simply laughed and basically hinted that “It is what it is.”
I respectfully asked him multiple times to help reverse the charge, especially since I had requested the later return in advance, but he refused. He told me, “I have a family too,” which came across as a justification for keeping the fee rather than trying to resolve the situation fairly.
Based on my experience, I found Tom to be dishonest and unwilling to help when an issue arose. I would not rent from him again and would encourage others to be very cautious before booking with him.

I was unable to get in the car for about three hours, and I could not contact the host during that time. I had to rent a different car at a car rental because I was on a strict schedule.

So sorry you had a negative experience. I went to the vehicle and was able to access it with the key in the gas cap door. I do apologise and was willing to show you how to open the gas cap door.
The host was exceptionally helpful ❤️ car was great and perfect for our long drives around anchorage!
