Unfortunately, our experience with this rental was extremely stressful and negatively impacted our family vacation. The key fob malfunctioned, and no backup fob was provided. When we reported the issue, the hosts repeatedly insisted that it was our responsibility to arrange and handle the repairs, leaving us to coordinate towing, contact a locksmith, and ultimately get the van to a dealership ourselves.
Our family of six was stranded, we lost an entire day of our vacation dealing with the issue, had to cancel a family photo session, and missed valuable time with relatives we were visiting. We also spent more than eight hours trying to resolve the problem and communicating with the hosts.
The hosts initially offered only a limited refund, but after we explained the full impact of the situation, they offered to refund their earnings from the trip and reimburse our towing and key fob expenses. I appreciate that they ultimately acknowledged getting a new fob made was not our responsibility. However, it took considerable effort on our part to get to that point, after we had repeatedly been told the problem was ours to handle.
While I appreciate the eventual resolution, the way this situation was handled caused unnecessary stress and took away from our vacation. Based on this experience, I would not rent from these hosts again.
