Nissan Altima

My 11-day reservation began at 8:00 a.m., but when I arrived, I could not open the lockbox to get the key. I contacted the host, and the co-host came to the car. She could not open it either and told me we had to wait for the host to bring a key and replace the lockbox. I did not get access to the car until 1:00 p.m., which made me late for work.

By then, I did not have time to cancel and find another car. When I entered the vehicle, I was hit with a strong smell of cigarette and marijuana smoke. The gas tank was also not full. I immediately notified the host. After driving to work, I contacted the host again because I felt dizzy and had trouble breathing while riding in the car. I told them I needed to end the trip and return it.

I returned the car and asked the host to confirm, but received no response. At 6:00 a.m., the host messaged me to say I did not need to fill the tank because it had not been full at pickup. I had already filled it. When I asked her to close out the trip so I could book another car and get to work, she replied, “I will when I get a chance.” The delay caused another disruption to my workday.

This experience has been extremely stressful. I waited five hours to access the car, could not comfortably ride in it, and then could not promptly book a replacement after returning it.

This was my first time using Turo. The car was awesome, road smoothly, and was clean. Transaction was quick and simple, effortlessly done through the app. Host answered questions as needed. Would try again in the future. Good experience.
