The car was okay but when I arrived to pick it up he said he needed to take a photo of my drivers license with his personal phone. My drivers license had already been submitted via the Turo app which I feel is safest. I could even understand asking to see it to match it with what’s in the app. However to demand to take a picture is EXTREMELY unsafe for a single woman. I don’t need or want a random man whose ID I did not see to have access to my address. This is a huge safety issue and again is unnecessary since Turo had already reviewed my license. If I didn’t really need the car I would have canceled on the spot. I have NEVER had anyone take a picture of my license before and I have rented SEVRAL times from Turo including high end cars. If the owner of the Mercedes I rented didn’t ask for my ID i sure as heck should need it for a Hyundai. He did say he deleted it but I have no way of really confirming that.

Thanks for the feedback, I understand your concern. As a high-volume host with 100+ vehicles, we follow Turo’s check-in requirements for every trip. This includes verifying and photographing the driver’s license at pickup and uploading it to the trip photos. Our team uses dedicated work devices for this. All interactions take place at our established business office in a safe, comfortable environment, where guests are offered water bottles and snacks as they wait.
