Everything about this experience with Dylan was amazing! Proactive in communication, there was a small issue with the previous renter and Dylan offered to resolve it before I even arrived. The car was gorgeous and lovely to drive around in the Jackson Hole area. Very easy to find in the parking garage and with very clear instructions for both starting and ending the reservation. My first experience with Turo was fantastic, thank you so much!

Top tips for renting a car in Jackson

With gorgeous mountain vistas, the culture-filled Wildlife Art Museum, and ski slopes aplenty, Jackson has plenty to do. Your rental car unlocks the adventure, no matter if you're heading to Yellowstone or sticking to downtown Jackson's local shops. Here are some tips for making the most of your time in this lovely town.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Jackson?

If you're staying in Jackson proper, you'll find city street speed limits of up to 45 mph. The city itself makes for smooth driving, though winter can bring almost 20 inches of snow in January alone. Yellowstone and Grand Teton both feature paved roads throughout, but the terrain can be challenging, making 4WD or AWD a good idea. Keep in mind that the national park roads aren't always lit, so drive cautiously and make way for fellow drivers.

What is parking like in Jackson?

Parking varies depending on whether you're in Jackson or one of the nearby national parks. Jackson's public parking garage is free throughout the day, with a fee of $3 per hour from midnight to 4 a.m. Notably, between Nov. 1 and April 15, overnight parking is prohibited on the Jackson streets to allow for snow plowing and overall maintenance.

Yellowstone and Grand Teton offer plenty of parking at their visitor centers and lodging areas. Parking near attractions can fill up by 9:00 am, but spaces become more available shortly after.

Are there toll roads in Jackson?

You won't find a single toll road in Jackson or anywhere else in Wyoming. You may need an entrance pass to get into Yellowstone or Grand Teton, but there won't be any tolls otherwise.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Jackson?

Jackson hosts plenty of gas stations along the 22 and 191, with EV charging stations available throughout the city proper. Yellowstone makes gas stations available at seven locations total, including Grant Village and Mammoth Hot Springs, while Grand Teton primarily hosts them near campgrounds. EVs are a harder sell within the state parks, but the major lodging areas offer EV charging, with nine stations in Yellowstone and three in Grand Teton.

Do I need to rent a car in Jackson?

You can get by in Yellowstone with alternative transit, but renting a car is always a good idea given how spread out Jackson's offerings are. It takes over an hour to get from Jackson Town Square to the entrance of Yellowstone alone, making a rental vehicle almost necessary to begin your adventures.
