The vehicle itself was great and performed exactly as expected throughout my trip. It was clean, reliable, and I had no issues with the car itself.
My main concern was the communication process. Prior to pickup, I received approximately 13 separate, lengthy messages with instructions. While I appreciate wanting renters to have all the necessary information, the volume of messages felt overwhelming. It would be much easier if the host consolidated everything into a single PDF or guide that renters could reference as needed.
There was also some confusion during pickup. The instructions stated that the key card would be located behind the driver's mud flap, but it was actually in the center console. As someone who didn't know what a mud flap was, the instructions weren't very user-friendly. More universally understood language and accurate directions would make the pickup process smoother.
Additionally, when I couldn't find the key card, there was no immediate way to call for assistance, so I had to wait for a response through messaging, which added unnecessary stress at the start of the rental.
Another issue was charging. While charging the vehicle at a non-Supercharger EV station, I immediately received a message stating that I could only use Tesla Superchargers because I would be charged if the adapter or charging port was damaged. I understand the host's desire to protect their vehicle and equipment, but I felt the communication came across as restrictive. As a Tesla owner myself, I'm familiar with using adapters and different charging networks. Many hotels and destinations offer Level 2 EV charging rather than Superchargers, so limiting charging options may not be practical for every renter.
Overall, the vehicle was excellent, but the rental experience could be improved by simplifying communications, providing clearer and more accurate pickup instructions, and allowing renters more flexibility with charging options.
