This was the most challenging experience I’ve had with a Turo, rental out of the more than half dozen rentals I’ve booked. Communications with the owner, Luis were excellent… no complaints. One thing I do have issue with is I noticed a subtle, but yet distinct funky odor, not initially when I picked up the car, cause it was in the shade and I had turned the air on immediately. But after getting in the car later that evening without the air on, I noticed the odor. I have a very sensitive nose, more so than most people. I am an ex-smoker and I have been a recovering smoker for over 12 years now. At first, I didn’t know what the odor was, but it smelled funky, stale, and rancid. I reported this to Luis and asked him what he was willing to do, He very generously offered to let me cancel the booking return the car and receive a refund for the unused time. Because of necessity and no alternative I continued with the booking. Come to find out by continued communications with Louise, the previous renter had had the car rented for prolonged period of time and had smoked in it. Luis had done everything he could to get rid of the odor and for most people they would not have noticed it, I’m assuming. Frustratingly, he wasn’t forthcoming about this information until subsequent communications and that’s what I have issue with. He did generously offer at the end of the trip to have a 30% refund added to my account through Turo. Also, this is a Hyundai. They have problems with their lights. The passenger side turn signal either came loose or burned out. He claimed it had just been replaced. Also, the passenger side running daytime light and marker light is out. Also, the car has a fair amount of road noise on the right hand side of the car. I’m thinking it’s the front end suspension. Car handled fine just noisy. Luis has done a remarkable job taking a used Hyundai, I know because I’ve owned two myself, and made it a very Comfortable and reliable, although not unflawed rental.
