We were able to book at 7pm the night prior for a one day rental the following day as we decided we had enough of the casino and wanted to see some sights. Manny was able to accept our reservation with no delay and made sure we had the car right on time even when he had to go out of his way to get the car and bring it to us. Him and his girlfriend were very friendly and kind. They were easy to rent from and we would totally use them again if we are ever in Laughlin again. Thank you for helping us get out of the casino and into the beauty of the desert. Car was in great shape and also ran just perfectly.

Top tips for renting a car in Bullhead City

Your own wheels in Bullhead City open up experiences beyond the riverfront attractions. The entire Mohave Valley spreads out before you with desert trails, hidden canyons, and panoramic vistas that feel worlds away.

Yearning to see what this corner of Arizona delivers? Local insights will help you squeeze the most adventure from your Bullhead City visit.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Bullhead City?

Road conditions remain reliable throughout the year, with traffic flowing steadily except during peak tourist seasons. Speed limits run 40 mph along State Route 95 between Merrill Avenue and Black Mountain Road, while residential areas typically post 25-35 mph limits. Route 95 is also the most congestion-prone part of the city. Highway speeds reach 65-75 mph on major routes like US-95 heading toward Las Vegas or Kingman.

Arizona's high desert climate brings extreme summer heat reaching over 100°F, but winter, spring, and fall temperatures are usually comfortable for driving. Monsoon season runs from June 15th through September, peaking between mid-July and mid-August. Intense thunderstorms can create sudden visibility issues.

The region is one of the few areas of the U.S. that experiences large dust storms, even during the wet season. Watch the weather forecast. Be prepared to pull off the road and park safely while you ride out dust storms.

Any standard vehicle handles the relatively flat terrain around Bullhead City, though desert roads may have sandy areas and occasional flash flooding during storms.

What is parking like in Bullhead City?

Parking throughout Bullhead City is relatively low-cost during most of the year, but the peak summer months for river recreation draw heavy crowds. Community Park features almost a mile of beach access with plenty of parking, though Rotary and Community parks charge parking fees during summer days, special events, and holiday weekends. Bullhead City residents with a photo ID may park free of charge at city parks, while visitors pay entrance fees during peak hours.

Downtown areas and shopping centers typically offer free parking year-round, making errands and dining convenient. River access points have adequate space most times, but summer weekends and holidays change everything. As temperatures rise in spring and summer, visitors can expect parking lots to fill quickly at popular riverside locations.

During major events or the peak summer season, Bullhead City's riverside attractions see parking challenges. Community Park along the Colorado River becomes especially crowded, with prime spots claimed by early arrivals. Local businesses near river access points sometimes offer private parking during busy periods, while casino parking across the river in Laughlin remains abundant, with most properties providing complimentary parking for guests.

Are there toll roads in Bullhead City?

Driving around Bullhead City and throughout Arizona is completely toll-free, including routes to river access points, desert trails, and the Nevada border. Arizona has no toll roads, with all highways, interstates, and bridges being completely free. Nevada also operates without tolls on public roads, so crossing into Laughlin won't cost you any fees.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Bullhead City?

Gas stations are plentiful along all major routes throughout Bullhead City and the surrounding area. Fill up before trekking into remote desert areas where gas stations are less common, especially when exploring hiking trails or scenic overlooks in the broader Mohave Valley.

EV charging stations are available throughout the region, with several locations in Bullhead City. Tesla Superchargers and other networks operate at casino properties across the river in Laughlin. The best charging infrastructure in the region is concentrated in Nevada's gaming district.

Do I need to rent a car in Bullhead City?

Downtown Bullhead City and the riverfront areas offer reasonable walkability, but public transit options are limited. To reach the best river access points, desert hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints scattered throughout the Mohave Valley, you need your own transportation. The same goes for crossing into Laughlin.

All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
