This was my first time driving a tesla. So my issue is not with this specific car but maybe teslas in general. You have to charge it way too frequently, which makes travel inconvenient, and the remaining miles displayed on a charge are always more than the actual miles you can travel. You don’t know the cost of charging until after the trip, however, charging is cheaper than gas (I drove to Houston from Austin, drove a little in houston for a couple days, drove back to Austin and my total charging cost was around $50).
The car is a fishbowl. It gets super hot super fast. I was sweating due to the sun exposure despite the weather only being 71 degrees.
The most frustrating part was that the car needed a pin to start, which wasn’t included in the check in instructions. So it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to use “valet mode” before finally getting the code.
All in all, it wasn’t a terrible experience, if you like electric cars this will work fine. Just make sure you know what to expect.
Hi Daniel, thank you for your feedback. Many of the points you mentioned — charging frequency, range estimates, and PIN start — are normal features of electric vehicles and can take some getting used to.
For security, I don’t share the PIN in advance. Each rental uses a different one generated by the car due to past safety concerns, and I provide it at check-in.
If you prefer a more traditional driving experience, another vehicle may be a better fit. Thanks again.
