Speed limits are typically 30 mph in built-up areas, 60 mph on single-carriageway roads, and 70 mph on dual carriageways or motorways.
Roads around Inverness are a mix of city streets, wider A-roads, and narrow rural lanes. Give yourself a little extra time during busy visitor seasons and around operating office hours, as traffic can be a little busier.
Winter can bring snow, ice, and early darkness — especially if you're heading into the Highlands. Conditions can change quickly, so check the forecast, drive slowly on higher routes, and carry essentials like de-icer. With a bit of preparation, winter driving can still be safe and stunning.

EV drivers have good options too. Public chargers are available at central car parks and shopping areas, including rapid and fast chargers at Rose Street multi-storey car park near the bus and rail station, plus units at supermarkets such as the Millburn Road/Morrisons area and other city spots.
