Key takeaways

• Starting February 26, 2025, vehicles must maintain over 30% 5-star maintenance ratings, based on the last 10 trips
• Vehicles with a maintenance rate below 30% will be unlisted, and upcoming trips within 2 weeks will be canceled
• To relist, hosts must pass a safety inspection performed by an ASE-certified mechanic
• As soon as the new standards go into effect, the maintenance rate will be based on the next 10 trips (rather than past performance,) and then moving forward will be based on the last 10 trips on a rolling basis
• Hosts will have more visibility into their vehicles’ maintenance performance to help them take action
• The All-Star Host maintenance rate criteria isn’t changing

Starting February 26, 2025, all vehicles in the US and Canada will need to meet updated maintenance standards to remain listed on Turo. These new standards will help raise the bar on vehicle maintenance, offering reliable vehicles, boosting guest satisfaction, and encouraging them to keep coming back, creating more business for hosts.

New tools and insights will make it easier for you to track which of your vehicles need additional maintenance, highlighting specific areas for improvement reported by guests.

Vehicles will be evaluated based on their recent maintenance rate

All vehicles on Turo will be required to stay above a 30% 5-star maintenance rate for their last 10 completed trips. If a host doesn’t get their vehicle fixed and its maintenance rate drops to 30% (meaning only three out of 10 trips received a 5-star maintenance rating), the vehicle will be unlisted and future trips starting in the next two weeks will be canceled.

In order for hosts to get their vehicle relisted, they’ll need it to pass a safety inspection from an ASE-certified mechanic and submit it to Turo for approval. Note that virtual inspections won’t be accepted. Once the vehicle is relisted, its maintenance evaluation will be reset and moving forward the rating will be based on the next 10 trips for a fresh start.

We’ll give you plenty of notice before the new maintenance standards take effect and vehicles won’t be unlisted at launch. Once the new standards go into effect, your maintenance rate will be based on your next 10 trips (rather than your past performance,) and then moving forward, it’ll be based on your last 10 trips on a rolling basis.

Note that these new maintenance standards are separate from the All-Star Host maintenance rate criteria, which isn’t changing.

Here’s the breakdown of the maintenance rates you’ll see in the app:

Note: If a guest gives a trip an overall 5-star rating but no maintenance rate, Turo will count this as a 5-star maintenance rate.

Get a better look at your maintenance performance

If you do get a maintenance rating that’s less than five stars, understanding exactly what needs attention can help you take care of issues quickly. Guests who give a vehicle a maintenance rating of four stars or less are now required to select the specific issues they encountered, such as “low tire tread,” “check engine light,” “brakes,” etc.

Additionally, in the coming months, new tools and insights will help you quickly identify which of your vehicles are falling below the new standards, and you can easily review guest feedback to identify issues to fix.
