Van was great, could’ve perhaps been cleaner upon pickup but was more than okay for purpose. Pickup was relatively easy, could be simplified a bit or there could be more communication regarding pickup process and vehicle location.

I'm from Hong Kong. This is my first time renting this 12-seater car in Sydney through this website. I rented it for eight days. The location was very convenient, the price was very reasonable, and the pickup and return process was extremely simple — I was very pleasantly surprised. Whenever I had questions, they communicated with me through the chat function on the Turo app. For a first-time user of this app, it's easy to get confused, but luckily there was a staff member to explain things during pickup. The car was exactly as described in the photos. I hope they can add more pickup locations in the future.

Frequently asked questions in Kensington

Why choose a van for your Kensington adventure?

Vans offer exceptional space for families exploring Melbourne's vibrant neighbourhoods, allowing you to pack everything needed for day trips to nearby attractions. The elevated seating position provides excellent visibility when navigating Kensington's tree-lined streets and discovering local cafes. Van rental gives you the flexibility to transport sporting equipment, shopping bags, or picnic supplies while exploring Victoria's diverse landscapes beyond the city centre.

What should first-time van drivers expect?

Van handling feels different from regular cars due to increased height and length, requiring extra attention when turning corners in Kensington's residential areas. Parking requires more space, so look for wider bays at shopping centres or street parking with generous clearance. Melbourne van hire becomes easier once you adjust to checking mirrors more frequently and allowing extra stopping distance on busy roads.

How do you park a van in busy areas?

Look for end parking spaces or areas with fewer surrounding vehicles to give yourself maximum manoeuvring room in Kensington's commercial districts. Use your mirrors extensively and take your time reversing, as vans have larger blind spots than standard cars. Many Melbourne shopping centres offer designated van spaces near the rear of car parks where there's typically more room to navigate.

Which van suits families versus groups best?

Families benefit from vans with multiple seating rows and ample boot space for prams, sports gear, and shopping from Kensington's local markets. Groups of friends often prefer vans with flexible seating arrangements that can accommodate luggage for weekend getaways around Victoria. Consider van hire options with sliding doors for easier access in tight parking spaces common throughout Melbourne's inner suburbs.

How can you stay comfortable during long van journeys?

Adjust your seat position to maintain good visibility over the van's longer bonnet, especially when driving through Melbourne's varied terrain. Pack snacks and water in easily accessible spots, as vans provide excellent storage options for refreshments during extended drives around Victoria. Take regular breaks to stretch, particularly when exploring areas beyond Kensington where petrol stations offer convenient stopping points.

What van safety features matter most?

Electronic stability control helps manage the van's higher centre of gravity when cornering on Melbourne's winding suburban roads around Kensington. Reversing cameras or sensors prove invaluable given the van's size when manoeuvring in tight spaces typical of Victoria's older suburbs. Multiple airbags and strong door frames provide enhanced protection for passengers, making van rental a secure choice for family adventures throughout the region.

Do I need to be a certain age to rent a car on Turo?

To rent a car on Turo in Australia, you must be 21 or older.

Is there unlimited kilometre car rental on Turo?

Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you'll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you'll see the total miles or kilometres you're allowed to drive under the heading "Distance included." You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the "Unlimited distance" filter.

What protection plan options does Turo offer?

When booking a car in Australia, you'll choose between the Premier (if available), Standard, and Minimum protection plans. Each plan includes varying limits on financial responsibility for damage to a host's vehicle. All trips include up to $20,000,000 (per event) in legal liability protection. Legal liability protection protects against damage to other people's property and death or bodily injury (where the legal liability is not covered or capable of being covered by any statutory or compulsory scheme) as a result of an accident involving the vehicle. All protection is provided by Turo Travels Mutual.*

Is there long term car rental on Turo?

Yes there is — whether you want to rent a car for three days, three months, or even longer, you can on Turo. You'll find discounted prices on bookings lasting 3+, 7+, or 30+ days, so you can get the best deals and lowest rates possible by booking longer trips.

  1. * Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan. Review the Guest Product Disclosure Statement for more information.
