This was hands down the best Turo experience I’ve ever had. The car was impeccably clean, exactly as described, and in perfect condition. Communication was outstanding from start to finish—every question was answered quickly, and the entire process was seamless. What really stood out, though, was how kind, professional, and accommodating the host was. They genuinely went above and beyond to make everything easy, and it made the rental completely stress-free. I’ve rented through Turo many times, and this host sets the gold standard. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again and would recommend them without reservation to anyone looking for an exceptional Turo experience. Thank you for such a fantastic rental!

Toyota Prius 2010

We had a fantastic experience renting Joseph’s little red Prius for our two-week Oregon and Northern California road trip! It was the perfect adventure car for our family of four. We were pleasantly surprised that we could fit our carry-on luggage and a few extra bags without any trouble. The hybrid got outstanding gas mileage—we spent only about $144 on fuel over two weeks of exploring, which made a big difference on a long road trip. The car drove well, was comfortable, and was easy to navigate on everything from coastal highways to winding forest roads. The Prius has a few dents and scratches from normal use, but honestly, we appreciated not having to worry about keeping a brand-new car pristine while traveling. It felt dependable and road-trip ready. The reverse beeping definitely gets your attention (there’s no forgetting you’re backing up!), but that quickly became part of its personality. Since we don’t drive a hybrid at home, it was a fun experience, and we’d happily rent from Joseph again. Thanks for helping make our vacation such a great one!

I had an amazing experience renting from a Turo from Drew. He was very communicative and helpful throughout the whole rental process. There was a little hiccup at the beginning of the rental process but he was so accommodating and we got it all straightened out. The car handled well and got great gas mileage. There were also adequate phone chargers and handsfree devices in the car. Overall I had an amazing rental experience with this Turo host and I would absolutely rent from them again in the future.

I had a great rental experience with Drew’s Turo car. The vehicle was clean and spacious. It handled well and got great gas mileage. The push button start and Bluetooth accessories were great features. The host was prompt with communication throughout the entire rental experience and was very helpful with any questions or concerns I had (didn’t have any on this trip because everything was perfect) 😊 I would highly recommend this Turo to anyone looking for a high quality car for a reasonable rental price. I would definitely book with this host again in the future.

This car was perfect!! My friend and I were staying in the Portland area and needed a way to explore the surrounding areas. The fact that it’s a hybrid saved us so much money on gas. It was also very clean and Timothy was super helpful and was flexible when we needed to slightly extend our trip.

Top tips for renting a car in Oregon

Oregon is built for road trips. With its winding coastal drives, mountain switchbacks, and wide-open high desert highways, every journey here benefits from a bit of planning. These tips will help you make the most of your Oregon car rental — from choosing the right vehicle for your route to navigating local road rules and keeping extra fees in check.

What documents and paperwork do you need to rent a car in Oregon?

To rent a car on Turo, you must create a Turo account, be 18 years old or older with a valid driver’s license, and get approved to drive on Turo. When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through an approval process by entering your driver’s license information by providing a photo of it and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for future road trips, business trips, and family vacations!

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Oregon?

Driving through Oregon is a pleasure thanks to its well-kept highways, scenic byways, and relatively low congestion outside major urban hubs. Interstate 5, which connects cities like Eugene, Salem, and Portland, is one of the busiest stretches. Expect delays during peak hours (typically 7:00–9:00 AM and 4:00–6:00 PM on weekdays), especially in and around Portland. If you're securing an airport car rental, give yourself extra buffer time when returning your car near Portland International Airport in case of congestion.

Seasonal weather plays a big role in road safety. Winter months can bring snow and ice to the Cascade Mountains and routes near Mount Hood, so keep chains handy if you're planning a ski trip. In contrast, July and other summer months are usually clear and dry — ideal for long drives through wine country or coastal highways.

Oregon’s general speed limit on highways is 65 mph (105 km/h), dropping to 55 mph (88 km/h) on two-lane roads. In residential or school zones, limits can dip to 20–25 mph. Some cities enforce traffic cameras and red-light rules more strictly than others, so keep an eye out for signage. Understanding local procedures around right-of-way, especially at 4-way stops, can also help avoid confusion.

Are there toll roads in Oregon?

Oregon has no traditional toll roads. However, the Bridge of the Gods and Hood River Bridge, both spanning the Columbia River, require a small fee to cross.

Do I need to rent a car in Oregon?

To truly explore the state’s national parks, wineries, and coastal towns, having your own wheels is essential. Attractions like Mount Hood, Smith Rock, and the Columbia River Gorge are best accessed by car — and many of the most stunning trails, viewpoints, and small towns aren’t serviced by public transit. Booking through Turo lets you choose the ideal vehicle for your route, schedule, and travel style, with pickup locations secured across Portland, Eugene, and beyond.

What occasions can I rent a car for in Oregon?

- Vacation car rental: Explore Oregon’s natural playground at your own pace, from the alpine trails of Mount Hood to the windswept cliffs along the Pacific Coast Highway. Drive the scenic loop around the Painted Hills or detour through wine country en route to Crater Lake. Planning ahead helps lock in the best prices, especially in July when adventure is in full swing.

- Wedding car rentals: Oregon’s most sought-after wedding venues –– like The Griffin House in Hood River or Black Butte Ranch near Sisters –– offer breathtaking views and rustic charm. Booking a rental car means you can travel comfortably between towns and events, while couples can select a vehicle that suits the mood of the day, from luxury sedans to sleek standard SUVs.

- Long-term car rentals: Settling in for a remote work stint in Portland or planning a multi-week road trip through Central Oregon? A long-term rental gives you the flexibility to extend your journey, adjust your plans, and travel on your own terms. Opt for vehicles with ample cargo space to fit gear, groceries, or the occasional thrift haul from small-town America.

What rental car types can I find in Oregon?

Oregon’s mix of urban hubs, mountainous terrain, and coastal highways makes it a state where the right set of wheels matters. Choose from the following vehicle types on Turo, including but not limited to:

- SUV rental: Great for trips to Mount Hood, Crater Lake, or the coast. Models like the Toyota RAV4 or Subaru Outback are popular picks for comfort and traction on Oregon’s varied terrain.

- Luxury SUV rental: Turn every road trip into a retreat with high-end models like the Audi Q7 or Range Rover. Ideal for wine country weekends or scenic drives through the Cascades.

- Pickup truck rental: Perfect for outdoor gear, camping supplies, or navigating Oregon’s more rugged routes. Sturdy pickups offer power, space, and versatility.

- Sports car rental: Make the most of winding routes like the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway in a Ford Mustang or similar performance model.

- Electric vehicle rental: With charging stations widely available in cities like Portland and Eugene, EVs like the Tesla Model 3 make for a clean and convenient choice.

- Sedan rental: Reliable for day-to-day drives or exploring Oregon’s cities. Comfortable options like the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry offer ease and efficiency.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Oregon?

The cost of car rental in Oregon can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in Oregon, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

How old do you need to be to rent a car in Oregon?

Most traditional rental companies in Oregon require you to be 21. On Turo, the minimum age is 18. Whether exploring Portland or the coast, Turo allows 18-year-olds to book cars, bypassing the age restrictions common at the airport.
