On the day of pickup I was informed via message that the host did not have time to clean the vehicle as he dropped the car off at the airport 2 days prior so he could leave for business. We showed up and the outside and inside of the vehicle just looked unkempt. 15-20 minutes of cleaning could have taken care of the dirty exterior, gravel/dirt on floor mats, and spilled drink stains on the door sills etc.

Not wanting to deal with disputing the vehicles condition, we documented the vehicles condition and proceeded to check in. The vehicle also had a parking ticket on it because the license plate didn't have a year registration sticker on it. I notified the host and they weren't concerned as it was a new plate and they were waiting on the sticker to come. Still a bit unsettling but we moved on with our trip.

We proceeded to leave the airport and were charged $105.00 to exit the parking garage. (remember them saying they had to drop the car off 2 days early?) Turo auto-reimburses for $35 (1 day of parking). I asked my host if they would be reimbursing me for the extra $70. They said they were willing to split it with me. Not cool in my opinion but we will revisit that later (Turo to the rescue).

We enjoyed the vehicle very much. It did everything we wanted it to and performed well in the Colorado weather and roads. 1 day before we were to check out, the Host mentioned that they had a car wash membership and asked if I wouldn't mind going through and vacuuming out the vehicle before returning it. However to not take it through the car wash so the paint wouldn't get scratched. I was astounded at the boldness of him asking me to clean his vehicle when it was delivered in an unclean condition. I explained to him how poor the condition was upon pickup and how I did not think it right that I be responsible to clean up after a vehicle that was delivered unclean and provided the pictures showing the vehicles state when we picked it up. He understood and agreed.

However I am a firm believer that you return something borrowed in better condition than what you borrowed it in. So we went out of our way to their carwash and used their vacuum to do a quick clean up of the dirt/gravel in the car and I even went as far as wiping down the door sills of spilled drink and shoe prints etc. as the car wash provided cleaning solution and towels. I then took the car to a self-serve car wash and paid to wash the exterior of the vehicle as well. Looking at it afterwards, I wished it looked that good during our whole trip as it was a very nice SUV!

I informed the host that I did take the time to clean the inside and outside as I wanted to return it in better condition than what it was delivered in. They were gracious that I took the time to do so.

We dropped the vehicle off and proceeded to check into the airport. Within an hour of drop-off I was notified that I was being charged an extra $52.88 for an over mileage amount. My trip included 1000 miles of travel and I was very aware of it. My host had uploaded a picture of the odometer showing nearly 500 miles less than what we had actually picked the vehicle up with. I could not believe the audacity of them to try and submit an incedental charge regarding over-mileage. Thankfully I had taken a photo myself right as we left the airport of the true odometer reading. It was dated and time-stamped and the dashboard clock even matched my time-stamped photo so there was no denying the true odometer reading.

The host ended up cancelling the claim and apologizing saying that they had a colleague pick up the vehicle and file the claim. Doesn't really make sense as the colleague wouldn't have had the original mileage photo.

Fast-forward Turo issued me a refund for the $52.88 claim over the incorrect mileage charge, and even stated that I was to be reimbursed for the parking fee my host insisted that I should split with them, stating it is the hosts responsibility to cover any parking charges incurred during an airport drop-off.

Final ratings:
Vehicle: 4.8/5 stars- performed very well as expected; comfortable

Host: 1/5 stars- I want to believe all of these coincidences were just that- coincidences. Thankfully I documented everything as well as I did; take your pictures upon pickup and dropoff!!!

Turo: 5/5 stars- I have heard horror stories of Turo not helping guests and being favorable more towards the hosts. This was not that case in my experience.

I am glad Turo customer service was able to help me to the extent that they did and took the time to explain what I should expect from my hosts and the vehicles/services. I will use Turo again but maybe not this host- although I wish them the best.
