Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the condition of this vehicle. As soon as I started the car, the check engine light was on, along with a warning that the auto drive feature was disabled. When I contacted the owner about the check engine light, he told me it was coming on because the vehicle needed a part related to the emissions system. Regardless of the cause, it was concerning to pick up a rental vehicle with the check engine light already illuminated.
The auto start feature also did not work, which I believe may have been related to the check engine light. That was especially frustrating during the summer because I was unable to remotely start the vehicle and cool it down before getting in.
The two rear tires were practically bald, the windshield wipers badly needed to be replaced, and the biggest concern was a constant shaking/vibration while driving at highway speeds. The shaking was very noticeable and made me uncomfortable with the overall condition and safety of the vehicle.
I was also extremely uncomfortable discovering an Apple AirPods in the glove box of the vehicle. There was no disclosure from the host that a Bluetooth AirTag had been placed in the car, and Turo's vehicle tracking policy specifically states that hosts are not permitted to use AirPods as active tracking devices. Finding an undisclosed tracking the vehicle during my trip felt like a serious invasion of privacy.
The positives were that pickup and drop-off were both very easy and convenient. Unfortunately, that doesn't outweigh the condition of the vehicle. Between the check engine light, disabled system warning, nonfunctioning auto start, nearly bald rear tires, worn windshield wipers, significant shaking at highway speeds, and the AirTag, I was disappointed with this rental and don't believe the vehicle should have been rented out in this condition. If the owner fixes these problems then it should be rentable.
