Always a gracious host

Although the host David has been prompt and professional, the car was not in good repair, causing the wheel to shear off while driving.
Truly sorry you had a bad experience with the car. I can only say that 2 separate mechanics told me that the wheel came off because the lug bolts were broken due to a high speed impact (pot hole, object, etc.). I can't say if it was this trip or a prior trip, but I don't believe it was a maintenance issue.

Car drop-off was quick and David was polite and friendly; he brought the vehicle to my home and was gone quickly. I know for the future that I should have done a thorough inspection of the vehicle. I had corresponded with him ahead of time regarding a concerning review & he'd provided a repair receipt to my satisfaction. If I use Turo again (I'm not sure I will), I would check to make sure that the headlights work well (these didn't), and do a short test drive to make sure that the brakes don't squeak (these did), and that the tires don't slip on wet roads (these did). I had to drive to the airport in the rain with the brights on (which didn't help much) after pulling over partway there to make sure the headlights were even on! I messaged him to let him know about the headlights and slippage and he just thanked me; he didn't offer to fix the problem (we were staying local & not driving after dark or using multiple vehicles so obviously we weren't getting our money's worth for the rental). On the last day of the rental, I messaged him to tell him about the brakes squeaking and that we'd be arriving home right at the end of the rental period. He replied and said that he'd had the back brakes done, could it be the front? It must be, since they're squeaking. :( Then after having the doors and trunk open for a few minutes to clean out the vehicle, the battery died. :( We just left it in the driveway with the jumper cables (included in the vehicle). He messaged me and said that he was able to get the vehicle to start after pressing the ignition button 8 or so times.
Android Auto didn't work either, so using Maps when I had to take my mom to her doctor appt at UCSD was difficult.
Pros: inside of vehicle was impeccably clean; host was friendly and responsive to messages
Cons: vehicle not in good working condition; would have been worth the lack of frustration & concern to pay the 30% more to get a minivan from a traditional rental company
My goal is always a safe and reliable rental. This trip didn't meet that standard, so my sincere apologies to Leslie. Quick notes to address her concerns. 1) Battery was fine, but a problem with the starter solenoid caused the issue that looked like battery issue (starter replaced today). 2) Front & rear brakes inspected today. All are at 8mm. Brake noise is likely due to the rear complete brake job and a "break in" period. 3) I did a restoration treatment on the headlights (now much brighter).

The suv needed to get serviced, alignment was uneven dangerous when go over 50, brakes was bad, hard or needed to wait several times to start the suv, very inconvenient.
I’m sorry you had issues with the car. I did take it in for service and it needed to have its rack and pinion steering assembly replaced along with some work on the brakes. I appreciate the feedback. I attached a copy of the invoice from my Mechanic showing that I had these repairs completed. The image is in the trip photos if you would like to review it. Next time, don’t hesitate to contact me during the trip if you are having any type of issues.
