The host was responsive and made a genuine effort to have the vehicle ready for my trip. In particular, he let me know that the windshield had been damaged during the previous rental and went through the trouble of getting it replaced before my pickup, which I really appreciated.
Unfortunately, shortly after pickup, I noticed that the tailgate was not latching/sealing properly and was causing rattling and whistling while driving. Later that evening, the tailgate became stuck and would not latch at all. After speaking with Turo, I contacted roadside assistance and arranged for the vehicle to be towed back. The tow truck driver was eventually able to get the latch working again, but indicated that there could still be an issue with the latch mechanism. Since I had already obtained a replacement rental and didn’t want to risk the tailgate becoming stuck again during a 10-day road trip, I decided not to continue with the vehicle.
I appreciate the host’s communication and the effort he made both before and during the rental. Unfortunately, the mechanical issue with the tailgate made this rental not work out as planned.

Thank you for the feedback. The guest had already decided to rent another vehicle before reporting any tailgate issue. The latch had simply been tripped into the closed position while the tailgate was open and worked normally once reset. We had a mechanic inspect the vehicle afterward and no mechanical fault was found. The Defender returned to service the following day without issue. We take legitimate concerns seriously, but the circumstances of this return were disappointing.
Everything was perfect. The car was clean and in the right spot and perfect for our trip. Thank you!
