The overall experience with this vehicle and the host wasn’t bad but it wasn’t all that great either.

For simplicity I’ll start with a quick list of things worth mentioning and then give some details below that for those interested in knowing more.

Simply Said:
✅ Pickup was quick & easy
✅ Car was great on gas
❌ CarPlay would not connect to any of our phones so bluetooth was as good as it got
❌ Lots of dents & dings on the exterior
❌ Cigarette burns on interior
❌ Subtle but unpleasant odor
❌ No windshield wiper fluid
❌ Time in the car was several minutes behind which confused drop-off a bit
❌ Drop off was uncomfortable & creepy
❌ Host was not very social

The details:
To start, the car was not very well maintained. I learned inconveniently that there was no wiper fluid when I needed it on the road, and the car itself was dented and dinged on the outside with cigarette burns & an odd stench on the inside when I picked it up. I captured the visuals but if smell could be shared on this app, it would smell like cigarettes butts and wet clothes.

There were several little things pieces of gunk around the cup holders and smalls marks on the seats that made it clear the car gets vacuumed but never detailed. It wasn’t horribly kept so I didn’t care too much but it wasn’t the level of clean I was expecting.

Immediately upon departure there was a noticeable grinding sound as soon as I pulled out of the unpaved driveway. I initially thought it to be the sound of the loose gravel but it occurred a few more times within the first mile of the pickup location so I quickly reached out to the host to inform them but they didn’t seem to care much as the only response I got was “ok”.

The host’s response made me a bit uneasy about the drive I would be making to Austin but I had to be there in a few hours and a last minute pivot to another vehicle wasn’t ideal, so I decided to push forward and fall back on my AAA if the car gave us issues.

Luckily the car did pretty well getting us around and the sound didn’t seem to impact the functionality of it like I feared it would.

After riding in it for two days my husband says the sound seems to be indicative of deteriorating rotors but that was just a guess based on the sound and feel of the drive.

As far as the host experience, aside from the copy/paste info they send, when attempting to communicate with the host, their responses were one or two words. They don’t give “welcoming, five-star host” by any means.

When it came time to drop off, the process was extremely stressful, uncomfortable & creepy.

It wasn’t until I was returning the car that I realized the time was 10 minutes behind. The photos I took of the mileage show I’m a few minutes early but the time on my phone (which wasn’t on the car due to CarPlay not working), showed me a few minutes late which flustered me.

To make matters worse, when I pulled into the same unpaved driveway where I picked it up, there was another vehicle parked in the driveway. My first thought was maybe the car belonged to someone in the house or maybe it was a second Turo that someone was going to be picking up but after opening the door to get out of the car, I realized the vehicle next to me was running and someone was sitting inside watching me.

My husband was parked along the curb so I know I was safe but the area itself was already slightly unsettling so to have a stranger staring from a car with dark tinted windows made me feel rushed and extremely creeped out.

Overall, the car and host served their purpose but this wasn’t a car or experience worth recommending to anyone.
