I booked a Lincoln Navigator and ended up with a GMC Yukon. I had very specific requirements for renting the Navigator. I had tried to rent a Navigator a year ago for the same family trip but the brakes were bad and I had to swap (different host). I explained all of this to Jay right after renting the vehicle and he said all would be good and that the vehicle is properly maintained. A week or so before the rental period I again asked that the vehicle be serviced so that it would be ready and I would not have to swap vehicles. Once again I was reassured. Day of the rental I'm told the vehicle is in the shop and won't be ready. At the end of the day I asked Jay for a discount because I did not get the vehicle I reserved and his response was that I should be grateful that they swapped. Communication was difficult with this host. Its like renting from a committee. My messages were answered by 3 different people over the course of the rental. Not sure they communicate and it felt like Jay himself didn't actually read my messages until I started expressing my dissatisfaction. Then he chimed in. My messages, especially the early ones, were not answered promptly and typically the first and only response was auto generated. After the rental period was over he was VERY concerned about getting a 5-star review and offered to essentially buy my review for a 10% discount on a future rental. Ironic because he called my asking for a discount for the "swap" a bribe. Needless to say Jay is definitely on my do not rent from list and in fact if Turo doesn't do something about hosts that are that are just ok with swapping instead of providing the reserved vehicle I will be leaving Turo all together. Turo advertises that you are renting a car, not a rental car. Well, I'm two for two now on getting a rental car instead of car so I'd say their advertising is crap.
