I was disappointed with this car, especially because I rented it for three months and expected a better experience as a long-term renter.
First, the car was not clean when I received it. I took multiple photos at pickup to keep a record of the condition. The car also smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, which was very frustrating because I specifically looked for a non-smoking vehicle. The smell was strong enough that my jackets and yoga mats started smelling like smoke, and one of my friends even asked if I had started smoking. I had to keep a strong diffuser in the car to manage the smell, but this was difficult because I rented the car during the winter and could not comfortably keep the windows open.
The car also had several maintenance issues. The windshield wipers would randomly move even when they were turned off, and they made squeaky noises. The window button was also unreliable. Sometimes pressing down would make the window go up, and pressing up would make it go down. Other times it worked normally, so it was inconsistent. The air filter also seemed like it needed to be changed because the car had a moldy smell. In addition, the tires seemed to need alignment because the car did not drive straight unless I constantly adjusted the steering wheel slightly to the left. These were not just minor complaints from me. My friends and family who rode in the car also noticed these issues, and I had to explain that it was a rental and ask them to ignore the problems.
Lastly, the host asked me in the middle of my trip to drive all the way back to the pickup location for an inspection. I asked if he could come to my location instead, but he told me to come to his location. I later checked with Turo and did not see anything showing that an inspection was required for my trip. It seemed the inspection was needed so the host’s vehicle would not be unlisted, not because it was mandatory for me as the renter. When I told him I was too far away and could not drive there, he said not to do the inspection. If the inspection was important for keeping his car listed, I feel he should have come to my location instead of asking me to drive about three hours.
Overall, I feel like I am being generous by giving this car three stars instead of two.
