The vehicle itself was nice and drove well, but unfortunately, the host experience wasn’t the greatest, especially considering this was my first experience using Turo.
I arrived about two hours after my scheduled pickup time because it was Sunday, I went to church, and I had a couple of things to take care of with my aunt before she left town since it was my daughter’s birthday party and she wasn’t going to be able to attend. I also wasn’t exactly sure what time I would need the vehicle, so I booked it early to make sure it was available.
From the beginning, the host did not come across as particularly pleasant, welcoming, or friendly, but I initially gave her the benefit of the doubt. It’s Arkansas in August with a heat index over 100 degrees, so I figured maybe she was just hot and having a bad day. 😂
Again, this was my first time ever using Turo, so I did not realize I needed to upload my driver’s license photos again specifically for the host. I thought that part had already been handled when I created and verified my Turo account.
What I did NOT expect was to receive a message that read: “Hey Briana. It’s 2 hours past your trip start time and you haven’t uploaded your DL photos yet. Your trips getting cancelled.”
There was no courtesy of asking whether I was still coming, explaining the process, or even attempting to find out what was going on. It was simply an immediate threat to cancel a reservation that had already been booked and PAID FOR. If anything, I was the one losing two hours of a rental I had already paid to use. I genuinely did not understand the frustration on the host’s end, especially with a first-time renter who was unfamiliar with that part of the process.
Then, after returning the vehicle on time, with no damage and MORE gas than I received it with, I was charged an additional $20.18 for fuel and had to pay it. The vehicle showed 309 miles of range when I received it and 316 miles when I returned it. That charge made absolutely no sense considering I returned the vehicle showing more fuel range than when I picked it up.
So here is my warning to anyone considering renting from this host: TAKE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING. Fuel range, mileage, exterior, interior, everything at pickup and return. Based on my experience, if you do not have photographic proof, you may find yourself paying for something that simply is not accurate.
Again, the vehicle itself was nice and drove well. Unfortunately, the overall host experience took away from what otherwise could have been a perfectly good rental.
New renters, document EVERYTHING for your sanity and your pocketbook.

Thank you for your feedback. Your trip was already 2 hours past its scheduled start time, and the required DL photos had not been uploaded. I could not release the vehicle without them. The fuel charge was based on documented pre/post-trip fuel levels, not estimated mileage range, which fluctuates. I agree guests should photograph everything
—I do the same. Documentation protects both guests and hosts.
The car likes to tell you you’re not buckled up when you are is my only complaint.
