Pick up great. Some problems with tire pressure, low oil light, burned out light warning and steering. Audi Q5 steering clarification. so this fits a higher-mileage first-gen model (2009–2017) with 129k miles. Symptoms match a textbook intermediate steering shaft U-joint failure, Audi’s notorious “notchy steering” issue where it’s fine straight ahead but binds on larger turns and won’t self-center.
Primary Cause
The flexible coupling (U-joint) in the steering column intermediate shaft corrodes, seizes on one axis, and creates binding off-center—smooth in the middle range, stiff beyond ~45°. This explains your exact symptoms: okay straight, hard on big moves left/right, no return. I would not recommend this car until steering addressed.
