Picked this car up at 7:30 PM for a family trip to Colorado. This was our very first time renting a vehicle, and unfortunately it turned into a complete nightmare. As it got dark, we noticed the driver’s side headlight was aimed down toward the ground, making it very difficult to see. We contacted the rental company and were told that was “how the car was designed,” anyways, fast forward about 8 hours into our 9-hour drive, the car suddenly started overheating. We had to pull over on the side of the interstate with our 1-year-old to figure out what to do. We were instructed to add water to the coolant reservoir, so we did. We then had to find the nearest store to buy coolant just to make it to our destination safely. Once we arrived to our air bnb, the vehicle was towed. Roadside assistance put us in a van and told us we’d be able to switch back to the VW once it was repaired so we could drive home to Oklahoma and return it in time. That never happened. Instead, the VW was towed all the way back to Oklahoma, leaving us stranded in Colorado. The van we were given by roadside assistance had to be returned to its owner in Colorado, meaning we had no vehicle to get home. This was supposed to be a fun family vacation and our first experience renting a car. Instead, it was stressful, frustrating, and completely ruined the experience. Lesson learned—we will never rent a vehicle again. We’ll stick to driving our own vehicles from now on.

Trip data also shows the vehicle was driven at sustained high speeds for nearly six hours with minimal stops, which places significant stress on any vehicle and may contribute to a mechanical failure.
