My experience with this rental was very disappointing and raised serious concerns about vehicle safety and maintenance.

When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, approximately 10–15 minutes before the scheduled pickup time, I noticed the host was already putting air in the tires. I specifically asked if there was an issue with the tires or if there was anything I needed to know before taking the vehicle. I was told that she was simply making sure the tires had enough air and that the car was ready for our trip. Based on that response, I had no reason to believe there was an existing problem.

After picking up the vehicle that morning, I went to check into my room and went to sleep. When I woke up and went back outside, I discovered that one of the tires had already lost a significant amount of air. I contacted the host immediately. She then told me that the tire might have a slow leak.

I put additional air in the tire and continued with my plans. Approximately two hours later, I returned to the vehicle and discovered that the tire was low again. I contacted the host, and she confirmed that it was a slow leak. Rather than offering to replace the vehicle or make arrangements to have the tire properly repaired, she asked me to stop at a local tire shop and have the tire plugged, stating that she would reimburse me.

I did not feel comfortable taking responsibility for repairing a safety-related issue that existed before and during my rental. I also had no guarantee that I would actually be reimbursed for the expense, and I did not feel that this was an appropriate arrangement for a vehicle I had rented.

The following day, the same problem continued. I had to purchase air for the tire approximately twice a day, at a cost of about $2.50–$3.50 each time, out of my own pocket. I notified the host about the continuing problem. At no point was the vehicle replaced, and I was not offered reimbursement for the money I was spending simply to keep the tire inflated enough to safely operate the vehicle.

At drop-off, I explained the situation to the host’s son and specifically requested reimbursement for the money I had spent on air. He indicated that he was not aware of what had been happening with the vehicle.

What concerns me most is that after I returned the vehicle, I saw the host get into the same car and drive it toward the car wash, seemingly preparing it for another rental. Given the repeated loss of air during my trip, I am concerned that the vehicle may not have been properly inspected or repaired before being rented again.

I understand that unexpected vehicle issues can happen, but once a host is made aware of a potentially unsafe tire issue, I believe the responsibility should be to properly address the problem or provide a safe replacement vehicle—not expect the guest to repeatedly purchase air or arrange and pay for a repair.

I would strongly encourage future renters to carefully inspect the tires and confirm that there are no existing maintenance or safety issues before accepting this vehicle.
