I want to preface this review by saying that Matt was a great host, and my complaints are not really about him. But I wanted to write an honest review so that others who (like us) may want not be familiar with EV’s are aware of some potential downfalls.
We picked the Rivian up at the Monterey Airport. Pickup was easy and the vehicle was clean. We had no issues driving down to Big Sur. But on the second day of our trip, the vehicle bricked itself. We asked the valet to bring the Rivian up so that we could drive down Highway 1 and explore Hearst Castle. The valet relayed that the vehicle wouldn’t work - wouldn’t lock, unlock, start, etc. We messaged Matt and apparently the key fob died. Based on my Googling, this is a known issue with Rivian. Matt was a great host and took the time to drive from Monterey to Big Sur to resolve the issue. We didn’t have any issues the remainder of our trip. But overall we were really disappointed to have had to cut an afternoon of our itinerary because of the issue.
All of this to say, Matt really was great. We just want others to be aware of this issue. Thankfully we were at the hotel when the issue occurred, so we had cell service. But it would have been a different story if it had happened while we were stopped site seeing in Big Sur!
This is a fair review, and I appreciate you taking the time to share it.
The key fob battery did die without warning, which was a first for me. In the past, my vehicles have always provided several days or weeks of advance notice.
As a result, I’ve added annual key fob battery replacement to my maintenance schedule, rather than relying on alerts, and I now keep spare batteries in every vehicle.
