We’ve rented through Turo many times and have always had excellent experiences with individual hosts. This experience was very different. It became clear that this is a rental car company operating through Turo, and while they did try to accommodate us when problems came up, there were several major red flags.
The vehicle we originally reserved had a flat tire, so we were given a different vehicle at the airport. It wasn’t large enough for our luggage, so we had to drive to their lot and wait while another vehicle was cleaned for us. Two days later, we were pulled over because that vehicle had an expired registration. The next day, we had to drive 45 minutes back to their lot again to get the issue resolved. After spending about an hour there, they ultimately took a registration sticker from another vehicle and put it on ours, which was very concerning.
Afterward, I went back and read reviews for the company as a whole rather than just the vehicle we originally booked. I wish I had done that beforehand. I found multiple reviews describing the same issues we experienced—including receiving a different vehicle than the one reserved and being given vehicles with expired registrations, with other renters also reporting being pulled over because of it.
Having to make two trips to their lot during a seven-day vacation was extremely inconvenient, but the repeated registration issues are the bigger concern. They were friendly and did make an effort to accommodate us, but based on our experience and the similar experiences reported by other renters, I would not rent from this company again. I strongly recommend reading the host’s overall reviews, not just the reviews for the specific vehicle you’re considering.
