Grigori's response

Thank you, Brandon! We’re glad you enjoyed the Range Rover and had a great experience with us. We’d be happy to host you again anytime!

The host, Anne, was gracious and went out of her way to help. She was willing to waive any late charge for a one to two hour delay. She even declined to charge me for fuel. Her conduct reflected reasonableness and good faith.

Turo’s conduct did not.

Despite the host’s willingness to resolve the matter fairly, Turo removed her discretion and imposed a full day’s charge for a brief delay. When I called customer support, I was told that a two hour delay would result in a 50 percent charge. That representation was not honored. Instead, the full daily rate was taken. Anne confirmed she had no authority to adjust it.

This is not about the money. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars using this platform. One late return in all that time, and the response was rigid enforcement, no grace, and a charge disproportionate to the circumstances.

There is a difference between protecting a platform and exploiting policy. When a company overrides its own host’s judgment in order to extract the maximum possible fee, it stops looking like structure and starts looking like strategy.

It is difficult not to conclude that late fees are modeled not around fairness, but around projected revenue from inevitable human error. That is a troubling business philosophy.

John D. Rockefeller said, “Greed is a bottomless pit.”

And companies that build their model around it eventually fall in.

To anyone reading this publicly, understand the policy clearly. If you are late, even briefly, expect no flexibility and no alignment between what you are told and what you are charged.

This experience has ended my use of the platform. Not because of the amount, but because of the principle.
