I originally reserved an Alfa Romeo Stelvio because I wanted to compare it to my own vehicle and get a realistic idea of fuel costs before returning to California. Unfortunately, I was notified right before my flight that the vehicle was unavailable and was offered an Audi Q5 as a replacement. Given the timing, I didn’t have much opportunity to explore other options, so I accepted the change.
While I understand that situations come up, the last-minute switch was inconvenient, especially since it changed the purpose of my rental. I was also surprised to be charged more for the replacement vehicle, as I would have expected a comparable or lower rate given the circumstances.
Upon pickup, the vehicle was only at half a tank and wasn’t as clean as expected, which didn’t make a great first impression. During the drive, I also noticed the car didn’t perform smoothly when the air conditioning was on, which is an important factor when driving in California.
Overall, the experience was average, but several issues impacted my satisfaction. Improved communication, fair pricing when substitutions are necessary, and better vehicle preparation would make a big difference.
Francisco was notified a week in advance that the Alfa was still on an active trip due to a late return. Rather than cancel and leave him stranded, I offered a larger Audi Q5 as an even swap with no price increase. He accepted. The Q5 also has better fuel efficiency than the Alfa. No concerns were raised before, during, or after the trip, so this feedback is surprising. Had I known, I would have addressed it immediately. Cleanliness and performance concerns were never reported.

Host was 30 minutes late for drop off. Made us late for our whole day. AC didn’t work properly. Host offered an exchange but we were not planning on staying in town. Also, receiving a tank half full is annoying for drop off. It’s a lose lose for the customer.
This review leaves out key details. The guest showed up about 30 minutes early, which does not make the delivery late. The AC issue was unexpected and I did offer a vehicle exchange as soon as it was reported., but it was declined. There were repeated demands for compensation despite resolution options. Fuel level is always disclosed in advance and simply needs to be returned with the same amount.
