We were knew to Turo so this was our first experience. The website was a bit confusing at first and took a while to get used to. Picking up the car went fairly smooth. I was surprised to find it unlocked and had no idea I was supposed to look in the glove box for the lock box. Then when I found it, up to that point I had not seen the combo for it, or had not been told there was one or where to find it. Got all that figured out, then had to figure out how to capture pics of the vehicle and how to upload them. That took a minute. There was no parking ticket in the vehicle so didn't know how I was going to get out of the airport parking lot. Drove to the exit and figured it out that they have a system that tracks how long you spend in the lot and charge accordingly. A few hours into the rental, we found the car was infested with some kind of tiny bugs, hundreds of them, and some roaches. I contacted the host and had them provide some traps and a can of insecticide fogging spray which they brought to the hotel promptly. That took care of the bug problem. Everything else was uneventful. Bringing the car back to the airport was a bit less stressful than picking it up. Uploading pictures after the rental didn't seem to load to the app the same as when picking up the car. Not sure why. Put the key back in the lock box and left the doors unlocked since that's the way I found it. What if I would have locked the door? I never had a discussion with the host about the car being left unlocked, picking it up, or returning it afterwards. All in all it was a pretty good experience. Not convinced it's better than renting from a car rental place but I might try it again.

Quynh's response

Aloha Daniel,
Thank you for choosing to use Turo. I know it can be a bit confusing using the app for the first time. As mentioned in the message it is a ticketless system, scan the QR code to pay. Kona is a pretty safe place so we don’t really see the need to lock it. The rest of the instructions is on the app like the location, lockbox and code. It is all stated on the app to make it easier for you. Hawaii is a tropical paradise but that comes with unwanted bugs inside the car. Mahalo

Quynh was a great host! She was really accommodating, whether that be with my pick time or any questions I had! This car was also great on gas!

Quynh is an excellent host. Good communication, kind and instructions were clear. The Subaru was clean, in great shape, full of gas and ran well. Will look him up again when we return.

Quynh was a great host, flexible and accommodating when my flight got cancelled. Car was clean and in good condition. Definitely recommend!
