I was so surprised by this experience after being an avid Turo customer for years and the app being my go-to for Hawaii car rentals. I really caution booking with this host if you are considering their vehicles for your trip. When we got the jeep, the charge was completely dead and the host declined to refund for the first charge when we asked about it. Not the end of the world, but it killed the fuel economy so we only ended up getting about 18mpg. Then the check engine light came on and we let the host know. Next, the oil pressure alert was on so we immediately stopped driving. There was oil actively leaking from the vehicle. The host wasn’t responding so we called Turo and had to get the vehicle towed (the tow didn’t get accepted until the following morning and we spent over 2 hours on the phone with Turo customer service). It was like pulling teeth to get a replacement vehicle - the agent was only going to give us $150 to put towards a new booking, which, because this is Maui and we were now needed a next-day rental, the price for the same type of vehicle was over $3000 for 5 days. For reference, we initially paid about $800 for a 7 day booking. Turo refused to replace it with a similar Jeep but we did end up with a Bronco which was excellent (great experience and super lovely host). This host also parks the vehicle in a paid airport parking lot, which costs $24. He stated he would reimburse us but has yet to do so at the time I am writing this. We made the best of a really frustrating and stressful situation, but I hope this doesn’t have to happen to anyone else on their Maui vacation!

Safety is always our top priority, and the vehicle was taken out of service immediately so it could be inspected and addressed.
