The car has been vacuumed but the outside was dusty and the interior wreaked of marijuana which was odd since hosts/Turo have strict rules about smoking in vehicles. When I reported this to the host he told me that "people will not stop smoking in the cars and unless he has photos showing obvious proof, Turo won't let him charge them."
I'm not sure what his explanation had to do with the foul odor being in the car when I arrived however I told him I want to make sure I'm not charged since I'm receiving the car in this condition and I do not smoke anything. I had to leave the lot and take care of the odor in the car myself - it took 3 days. He went on complaining about the "people" he rents to and how "they" don't respect things. I asked, during a different conversation, does he sell cars.
Again, he went in on the "people" and how they never pay and take the cars so "no" he stopped selling to "them" about 3 yrs. ago.
Bashing his customer base was tasteless and unprofessional especially since you can choose who you lease to. Lastly, I was considering extending this trip until I noticed a price increase of almost $400 for the month.
When I asked about this, I was told by the host that he doesn't set the price for HIS vehicles, Turo does. That was a blatant lie. Turo has a tool hosts can use where they suggest pricing based on demand and location but hosts aren't required to use this tool. Hosts can charge whatever they want for their vehicles.
This host is dishonest and looks down on the population he chose to serve and that keeps him in business; many of which appear to be African American and Hispanic from what I observed both times I was there. If you have any issue he will hide behind the Turo app by misrepresenting their role in his rentals to keep from speaking to you directly and addressing concerns/questions.
All he wants is your money and he could care less about you or your experience beyond that. This is why he'll bash his customer base to a current customer. If these customers are sooo bad, why not choose another customer base in another location? Hummm? Because their money is green, simple🫰🏽
I decided not to extend my trip and to never patronize this business again. They are unprofessional and dishonest.
