What started as a simple rental turned into an absolute disaster. The vehicle developed a check engine light and became borderline undriveable. Once it went over 40 mph, the entire car shook violently to the point my child said it felt like “being in an earthquake.” I had four children with me and a wife participating in wedding events, and there is no universe where I was going to risk my family’s safety in a vehicle behaving like that.
Despite the condition of the car, I was still somehow expected to drive it through Connecticut on the highway just to return it. That was never happening. The vehicle was unsafe, period. When I contacted Turo support to report the issue and arrange a safe return, I was told we would be refunded. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the host remotely disabled the vehicle while it was sitting in my driveway. Having someone remotely shut down a vehicle at your home without warning is honestly disturbing and completely unacceptable behavior.
What makes this even more outrageous is that after acknowledging the vehicle issues, the host ended the trip herself and claimed she was coming to pick up and drive the vehicle anyway. So apparently the car was unsafe for me and my family, but perfectly fine for her to drive and likely re-rent to the next unsuspecting customer. That is reckless.
This experience was stressful, unsafe, and completely unacceptable from both a vehicle safety and customer service standpoint. No family should be put in this situation.
I’m sorry you were unhappy with the vehicle. This issue has never happened before while renting this vehicle out. However, you never contacted myself or Turo during the trip to report any problem and continued using the vehicle the entire rental. I had to reach out after the return time, and only then was Turo notified. I always put my renters’ safety first, and if there is ever an issue, it should be reported immediately to both the host and Turo.
