The car had a lingering smoke smell when I picked it up. I let the host know immediately, and he said he was aware of the issue and was trying to get the smell out, but no solution or accommodation was offered. I later learned from Turo Support that, because this is listed as a non-smoking vehicle, I could have requested a replacement right away.
Beyond the smoke odor, the car struggled to accelerate and the A/C barely cooled in the extreme heat, making it an uncomfortable drive.
The biggest issue occurred on day five, when the car suddenly stopped running. I contacted the host, who came to look at it and attempted a repair. When he couldn’t get it working, he told us to contact Turo for roadside assistance instead of handling the situation himself. Turo Support was surprised that this responsibility was left to us while the host was already with the vehicle. Fortunately, Turo arranged a replacement car, but we lost an entire day of our trip dealing with the breakdown and coordinating the replacement.
Overall, this rental caused a lot of unnecessary inconvenience and stress. Based on my experience, I would not recommend renting this vehicle.

When you reported the issue, I responded immediately, drove to your location, and attempted to diagnose it before Turo arranged a replacement. The odor reported at pickup was from scented air fresheners left by the previous owner, not smoking. The vehicle operated for several days before the mechanical issue, you even asked to extend. The issue turned out to be a bad starter wire fuse and has been repaired.
