The host was helpful, responsive and nice.
This vehicle is great if you have to drive in the snow, the host even included snow chains which made us feel safer going towards Avon CO area. The pick up and drop off was easy at the airport. It would be a good car to rent if you aren’t traveling too far out of Denver.
But, I would not rent this vehicle again for a long distance trip, due to the maintenance needed on the jeep. The mileage is in the mid 200,000s.
•The right turn signal does not stay on, you have to hold it if you need to have it on longer than a second.
•It is not a smooth ride, and it’s hard to control on the road to stay straight. (we have a Ram 5500 on 41 inch tires with tighter steering than this Jeep). It could use some attention on the steering components.
•The radio/Apple CarPlay makes an annoying sound in the car at all times, and you must crank up your music loud to hide the sound, or turn volume completely off.
•Unknowingly, we were driving without any running lights in the dark in snowy conditions for half our trip. During the middle of the trip we were flashed again by a driver who was kind enough to let us know our running lights were not working. (We were flashed quite a few times before this and we were not sure why) so we can only assume they didn’t work from the day we got the jeep. We believe this vehicle is experiencing some sort of electrical issue. The back break lights and back blinkers do work, but the running lights will not come on. The front driver marker light is not working. By the time we realized all of this, we were unable to go to a mechanic shop because they were not open where we were staying. We used our flashers if it was crucial to drive in the dark, and some days we canceled our nightly plans. Thankfully the owner was kind enough to agree to reimburse us for a portion of the cost and we greatly appreciate him for doing so. Before renting this jeep I’d ask if some repairs have been made.
During this guest's trip, a 15 amp fuse expired, causing an impairment with the running lights. We recommended spending 5 minutes to replace the fuse, but the guest insisted on a 50% discount instead, to which we obliged. As evidenced by the 300+ trips 5-star trips over 7 years and flawless annual inspections, the vehicle is impeccably maintained and in expected condition for a vehicle of this vintage. In the words of the guest, "these things happen" and are not indicative of a normal trip.
