Unfortunately, our four-day Cadillac Escalade rental from Hector involved several significant problems and unresolved reimbursement commitments.

• Vehicle was not at Denver International Airport as agreed. Upon our arrival in Denver, the Escalade was not available at the airport as arranged. Instead, it was at Hector’s home.

• We were notified while already in flight. Hector contacted us while we were traveling to Denver and advised that the vehicle had apparently been returned by the previous renter with a flat tire. He said Cadillac field service was on the way to repair/replace the tire, but the Escalade would not be ready at the agreed time or location.

• Cancellation wasn’t a practical option. Hector offered to cancel and refund the rental, but we were already on the airplane traveling to Denver when we received this information. Canceling at that point would have left us arriving at DIA without transportation.

• $108.57 Uber expense. Hector offered to reimburse us for an Uber from Denver International Airport to his home so that we could retrieve the vehicle once it was ready. The Uber cost $108.57.

• Escalade was provided nearly empty of fuel. Hector also advised that he would not have time to fill the Escalade before we picked it up and agreed to reimburse us for filling his vehicle. Filling the tank cost us $136.60.

• We returned the Escalade with a full tank. At the end of our rental, we topped off the vehicle as normally expected at our own expense, costing approximately $63.00. We are not requesting reimbursement for this $63 because this was fuel we used during our rental.

The reimbursement Hector agreed to therefore totals $245.17 : $108.57 for the Uber plus $136.60 for the initial tank of fuel.

Our Turo invoice reflects total rental charges of $446.15, but as of the time of this review, the promised $245.17 reimbursement/credit has not been received.

Hector has messaged us: “I can’t complete the check out until you finish the checkout, I can’t get paid until it’s finalized on your end.”

We relied on Hector’s agreement to reimburse these expenses when we accepted the inconvenience rather than canceling the rental after we were already traveling to Denver.

The Escalade itself ultimately provided the transportation we needed, but the pickup experience, additional out-of-pocket expenses, and especially the unresolved promised reimbursement significantly affected our experience.

I will gladly update this review if Hector honors the reimbursement commitments he made.

Turo online support advised:

By leaving detailed notes in the messaging within Turo and documenting the Host agreement to reimburse that Turo can facilitate the reimbursement directly as long as notes and host agreement are in the Turo messaging.

Hector's response

Elizabeth, you were notified well in advance that the vehicle could not be delivered to the airport. I offered a full refund or the option to Uber to the pickup location. I could have canceled the trip entirely, so this review feels unnecessary. As a first-time Turo guest, please understand vehicles must be returned with the same fuel level received. Hosts are also not paid until 3–5 business days after checkout.
