The trip was fine, but the car was given to me with very low oil which may have been the reason why I spent so much on gas. Ask if car has been checked out before reserving ride.
The 23% reading was the Oil Life Monitor, not the engine oil level. It means approximately 1,700 miles remained before the recommended oil change. The vehicle had the proper oil level and was checked before the trip. As for fuel consumption, the Equinox is an SUV, so it uses more fuel than a hybrid. If fuel economy is important, a Prius may be a better choice for a future trip.
