Our Week with Turo: Volkswagen Tiguan 2024

We recently rented a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan through Turo for a 6-day trip, and overall, the experience was great. The vehicle was excellent—fuel-efficient, spacious enough for 5 adults, and perfect for our drive along the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. Driving through the mean and congested streets and freeways of LA, the Tiguan’s sporty mode was a blessing when we needed it, while still being incredibly gas-efficient when we didn’t. It only required two half-tank refuels, which was impressive. With our luggage (2 large bags and 5 carry-ons), we found it tight but manageable by folding down the third row to fit everything in the back.

The owner went above and beyond by picking me up from the airport and saving me from paying the temporary parking fee—a thoughtful gesture.

The only downside was the owner’s use of an Apple AirTag to track the vehicle. When I questioned him, his vague response was unsettling: “You don’t have to worry about this” and “I don’t know about it, sir.” We later found the AirTag under the hood on the driver’s side. While we understand the need to monitor valuable property, transparency is key. It would have been much better if the owner had been upfront about it. We nearly contacted the police to address the situation and disable the AirTag.

Despite that hiccup, we thoroughly enjoyed the Tiguan and would rent it again for its reliability, comfort, and performance.
