Dealing with the issues we faced are the reason I no longer like to use Turo. I hadn’t used this app in 6 years and decided to use it again for a trip to Georgia, thinking the issues with the app I faced had been resolved. They have not. The original car I reserved was not able to be driven, as was the second one. This Lincoln was the last resort. I could already tell from the get-go that this was shady, but we were on a time crunch and needed to get going.
Everything was fine until we were ready to leave GA, when the battery died. Instead of going through the hassle of having to call Turo, get the car towed, etc. (again, this is what I dealt with last time with Turo and still haven’t gotten my money back), we used my business partner’s AAA insurance to get roadside assistance and get the battery replaced so we could get home. When I called, I was told by the vendor that he “only got paid $150 for the reservation and that he is ”Not reimbursing me for the battery and taking a loss on this”. From a business aspect, I get that, but I then tried to explain to him that the money he would’ve had to pay to tow it, fix it (the alternator is what was draining the battery), ship it, and then put a new battery in would have been in the thousands. Me putting in a battery and driving it back would have cut those costs significantly. He wasn’t trying to hear it (probably saw an opportunity to save money in his own, inefficient way), and Turo was completely unhelpful.
I would’ve appreciated a little more flexibility, especially with the hassle I initially had to deal with from the original reservation.
