The car was clean, pickup and drop-off were straightforward, and communication was fast the whole time, so I appreciate that.
My biggest issue was the Tesla experience itself. They use ChargeKey instead of the Tesla app, and in my experience it wasn’t very reliable. A few commands failed, and because it isn’t the Tesla app, I couldn’t use my Tesla profile or my settings. As someone who drives a Tesla every day, that was a pretty noticeable downgrade. I also had to clear the previous destinations from navigation, and someone else’s Apple Music account was still signed into the car when I picked it up.
The car also didn’t have Premium Connectivity, so I had to use my hotspot for live traffic. On top of that, there was a pending software update before pickup that made the system noticeably slower, especially when looking up an address while driving. Since the car isn’t connected through the Tesla app, you can’t send destinations directly from your phone.
Overall, the car itself was clean and the rental process was easy. If you just need a clean Tesla to get around, you’ll probably be happy. But if you’re a daily Tesla driver and expect the convenience of the Tesla ecosystem, I’d probably look elsewhere. I’ve had much better experiences renting from other Turo hosts.
