This was an extremely concerning and frightening experience.
While descending a hill, this vehicle suddenly lost engine power without any prior warning lights, resulting in the immediate loss of power and brakes. We were able to get ourselves out of the dangerous location, but shortly afterward the check-engine light came on. We parked the vehicle, stopped driving it, and it ultimately had to be towed.
What was particularly troubling was discovering afterward that another guest had reported this exact vehicle stalling while driving, displaying a check-engine light, and requiring a tow only a couple of weeks before our trip. Despite that life-threatening incident, the vehicle had been returned to rental service.
The vehicle also had approximately 170,000 miles at the time of our rental.
Turo ultimately refunded our trip and had the vehicle towed. We were left without a replacement vehicle and had to arrange alternative transportation.
Based on our experience, I would not have felt safe continuing to operate this vehicle.

One of the most terrifying experiences of our lives as we couldn’t move and a semi was barreling towards us from behind. The only thing that saved us was the semi going into the toll lane at the last minute. This vehicle needs major repair.
