Beware!
I rented this van for 8 days, and unfortunately it was in extremely poor condition. It appeared to be a heavily worn vehicle that had not been properly maintained or cleaned.
The interior was very dirty—stained seats and carpets, with buildup and grime on multiple surfaces. The charging ports (USB and others) were only available in the front and none of them worked. Traveling with three teenagers, this made a 15-hour drive especially difficult since we couldn’t charge any devices.
There were also serious mechanical and functionality issues:
* The steering wheel shook badly, and the vehicle drifted/pulled into other lanes while driving, which felt unsafe
* Cruise control (which was advertised and a key reason I booked this van) did not work
* Apple CarPlay/calling was unreliable—calls cut in and out constantly
* Back seat interior lights did not work
* The front of the vehicle made a loud, concerning noise
* Automatic sliding doors worked inconsistently and often had to be manually forced
Additionally, the charging ports were filled with food debris and crumbs. I even tried cleaning them out myself, but they still didn’t work.
The van was also a major gas guzzler. The fuel gauge dropped extremely fast—even driving less than 2 miles would noticeably move the needle—which made the trip more expensive than expected.
Communication with the owner was frustrating. Responses were slow and often just repeated my concerns without offering any real solution or support.
When I reached out to Turo for help, the only options offered were to tow the vehicle (which would have left me stranded in Ohio with my children) or refund the remaining days—neither of which was a realistic solution in the moment.
This was the most expensive rental I’ve ever booked, and it made an already difficult trip—traveling to bury my brother—even more stressful. Driving without cruise control caused significant discomfort, including severe swelling in my ankles, and I lost over a day just trying to recover.
Overall, this vehicle is in serious need of repairs, deep cleaning, and proper maintenance. I would not recommend renting it in its current condition.
