This was my first experience using Turo, and unfortunately, it will also be my last.
Less than 48 hours after picking up our vehicle, we experienced a serious maintenance issue that caused the car to nearly break down while we were driving. We were on the highway after dropping our husbands off at the airport when the vehicle suddenly began having issues and would not operate properly. We were extremely fortunate that we were close enough to get assistance, because the situation could have resulted in a serious accident with the vehicle failing to operate correctly in the middle of the highway.
We immediately contacted our host and had to interrupt our trip to wait for a replacement vehicle. This was a major inconvenience, took time away from our plans, and, most importantly, created an unnecessary safety risk that should never have occurred with a rental vehicle.
Because we had to return/exchange the vehicle immediately due to its mechanical condition, we did not have the normal opportunity to stop and add the small amount of gas—approximately $10—that would have brought the tank back to full. Despite the circumstances, we were then charged $40 for refueling.
I find this extremely disappointing and unreasonable. We did not voluntarily return the vehicle early or fail to refuel it out of negligence. We were forced to exchange the vehicle because the car provided to us was experiencing a maintenance issue and was unsafe to continue driving. After dealing with the inconvenience and potential danger of a vehicle nearly breaking down on the highway, I would have expected some understanding regarding a minor difference in the fuel level rather than an additional $40 charge.
Given the seriousness of what occurred, I also believe Turo should review the overall experience and condition of the original vehicle. A rental vehicle becoming unsafe to drive less than 48 hours into a reservation is a significant concern, and this experience has completely changed my willingness to use Turo again or rent with the host.

Brand new hybrid vehicle, warning light about low battery, I offered a swap. You refused to refuel before returning the minivan, Turo charged you a fee
Pick up and drop off were smooth. The car was clean inside and out. We visited with a large group of family 8 people fit comfortably. We didn’t run into any issues but we booked same day and Alicia was very quick with accepting and responding to our booking. I would definitely recommend her as a host.
