Overall, this was an okay rental, but there were a few important issues to be aware of.
The vehicle worked for getting around Maui, and the host was responsive when we reached out. However, the condition of the van did not match the listing photos. It has noticeable sun damage and quite a few scrapes and scratches, so set expectations accordingly.
We also ran into two issues during the trip. The key fob battery died while we were at the top of Haleakalā, which left us stuck without cell service for about an hour until we could resolve it. Later in the trip, the main battery died while we were sitting in the car with only the radio on, and we needed to get a jump. Both situations were stressful and caused delays.
To the host’s credit, communication was good and they worked to help address issues.
This rental can work if you need a basic vehicle, but just be aware of the condition and potential for maintenance-related issues.

The car was fine until the second to last day of the trip, there was some type of main transmission mechanical failure. We were concerned to drive it after that.
No smoking allowed
Smoking in any Turo vehicle will result in a $150 fine
Keep the vehicle tidy
Unreasonably dirty vehicles may result in a $150 fine

Missing fuel may result in an additional fee
