Overall, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. The vehicle was not ready to be picked up at the scheduled time. Rather, 10 minutes after the reservation was supposed to begin, the host asked to be notified of my arrival time and that he'd be meeting me at arrivals at DCA. It made the scheduled pickup time feel meaningless, and waiting outside the airport for roughly 40 minutes with my one and three-year-olds was difficult. We couldn’t take possession of the vehicle until an hour after the reservation start time.
Because of the hectic pickup location and being pressured by airport staff to move, we weren’t able to properly complete the check in process and take thorough photos of the vehicle’s condition. Additionally, we didn’t realize until after the host left in their follow vehicle that the provided child seats were booster seats, which weren't suitable for my one year old. Future renters should check with the host on child safety seats before beginning their trip. We had a time sensitive event 3 hours away and were now an hour behind schedule. Furthermore, we were then facing rush hour traffic leaving DC, so it didn't make sense to reach out to the host to resolve the issue. The only way to make our event was to purchase our own child safety seat.
As for the vehicle itself, it had several issues. It idled very roughly; the driver side sliding door didn’t work properly and didn’t always lock; some of the other doors also failed to lock consistently; the key fob only worked for the panic button and the tailgate. That meant unlocking the vehicle required either trying doors that hadn’t locked (which set off the alarm) or climbing in through the tailgate. We wish we had been informed of these issues ahead of time rather than discovering them throughout the trip.
Overall, the poor communication during pick-up and drop-off, the hour late start, the unsuitable child seat, and the vehicle’s condition made for a very unpleasant rental experience. While interactions with the host were always friendly and the vehicle did ultimately get us where we needed to go, I don't recommend booking with this host and vehicle as this experience only caused further irritations and difficulties to what was supposed to be a quiet trip.
Hi, we do take responsibility for the late pickup and apologize for that.
regarding the fob and the seats, i wish you let us know during your trip, or at the start, or at some point before the end. we would have happily given you different seats and a different key fob. We were not sure what size seats you wanted, so we brought those.
Again, I wish you had let us know any concerns at the start of your trip so we could solve them, rather than not communicating and just leaving poor feedback.
