I rented this 2015 minivan, and unfortunately, the vehicle was not running properly. This has nothing to do with the fact that it is an older vehicle. The issues were significant enough that I did not feel the vehicle was safe for my family and me to drive.
I have photos and videos documenting what I observed under the hood, including the fan belt not running correctly, electrical tape being used as a cover on the coolant reservoir, and a noticeable knocking noise coming from the valves.
I immediately reached out to the owner through the Turo app to make him aware of the issues. Rather than being concerned or apologetic and offering to have the vehicle inspected or repaired, I was told to simply “let it warm up” and that the van “runs pretty fine.” I explained that I did not feel comfortable driving a vehicle in that condition with my family.
Unfortunately, the owner’s response became increasingly rude and confrontational. He even accused me of trying to make a “fake claim.” I have kept all of the messages exchanged through the Turo app documenting our conversation.
I understand that a 2015 vehicle is not going to be brand new, but that is not the issue. The issue is the condition of the vehicle and the owner’s response when I raised legitimate safety concerns.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend renting this vehicle or dealing with this owner. I would give ZERO stars if Turo allowed it.
